This is a real furniture sourcing project I managed for a private home in Kfar Shmaryahu, Israel.

The client sent me many reference images of the furniture she liked. From there, I helped her source and customize the furniture in China, follow the production, inspect the finished products and finally arrange everything for loading.

The total purchase value of the indoor and outdoor furniture was US$36,515, and everything was shipped in one 20ft container from China to Israel.

1,Starting from Reference Images

For this project, the client already had a clear idea of the style she wanted.

She sent me many reference images for sofas, lounge chairs, dining chairs, outdoor furniture and other pieces.

For each item, I checked whether we could find a good existing option in China or whether it would be better to custom make it.

I don't think everything needs to be customized.

If I can find an existing product that is already very close to the client's reference and the quality is good, I normally recommend this first. The result is more predictable, and it can also save time and cost.

If we cannot find something suitable, then I look for the right factory to make it based on the reference.

2,From Reference to Actual Result

For custom-made furniture, I always explain to my clients that a reference image is a reference, not a promise of a 100% copy.

We try to get as close as possible to the confirmed design, proportions, colors and overall look, but we still need to work with the actual materials and production methods available in China.

This is why confirming the details before production is very important.

3,Confirming Materials and Details

A picture alone is not enough for a factory to make a piece of furniture properly.

Before production, we may need to confirm the size, fabric, leather, wood, veneer, stone, metal finish, color and other details, depending on the product.

I communicate with both the client and the factories during this process.

Sometimes a client's idea looks simple in a picture, but there are many small decisions behind the final product.

My job is to help turn that idea into something the factory can actually produce.

4,Working with Different Suppliers

For a whole-home project, I normally don't buy everything from one factory.

Different factories have different strengths.

A good sofa factory may not be the best place to buy dining tables. A factory making indoor furniture may not be suitable for outdoor furniture.

So for this project, I worked with different suppliers for different products.

The client sees one project, but behind it there are several suppliers that need to be managed and coordinated in China.

This is an important part of my work as a sourcing agent.

5,Following the Production

After the orders were confirmed, I continued to follow the production with the factories.

Production started around the end of March.

During production, if there was something that needed to be confirmed again, I communicated with the client before asking the factory to continue.

The client also added more items during the project, so while some furniture was already in production, I was still sourcing and arranging new products for her.

The whole process took nearly two months.

6,Inspection Before Shipping

When the furniture was finished, I arranged inspections before shipment.

I checked the finished products against what we had confirmed with the client, including the appearance, materials, colors, dimensions and other important details.

If I found a problem, I communicated with the factory and tried to have it solved before the goods left China.

For me, this is very important.

It is always better to find and solve a problem at the factory than to discover it after the furniture has arrived at the client's home

Of course, inspection does not mean handmade furniture or natural materials will be 100% identical.

Wood, stone, leather and other natural materials can have reasonable differences in color and texture.

The purpose of inspection is to check the important details and solve obvious problems before shipping.

7,How Much Did the Furniture Cost?

The total purchase value of the indoor and outdoor furniture was US$36,515.

This included furniture from different suppliers, with a mix of ready-made and custom-made pieces.

All the furniture was finally consolidated and loaded into one 20ft container.

The US$36,515 was for the indoor and outdoor furniture only. It did not include shipping, or the curtains and custom cabinetry that the client added later.

I think sharing the real cost is useful because it gives other homeowners a better idea of what a real sourcing project from China can look like.

Of course, every project is different. The final cost depends on the quantity, materials, design, level of customization and quality requirements.

8,Consolidation and Container Loading

When the furniture from the different suppliers was ready and checked, we arranged everything for consolidation and loading.

The container was loaded on May 27.

This is one of the parts I really like about my work.

At the beginning, many of these products were just reference pictures on the client's phone.

Then step by step, they became real furniture — sourced or made by different factories, checked in China, and finally loaded together for the client's new home.

9,The Furniture in the Client’s Home

After the furniture arrived in Israel, the client sent me some photos from his home. It was really nice to see everything finally in place.

Many of these pieces started from reference images. I saw them go through sourcing, customization, production, inspection and shipping in China, and now they are part of the client’s real home.

For me, this is always one of the best parts of a project — seeing the furniture I helped source in China finally arrive and fit into the space as we planned

10,The Project Continued

Our work did not finish with this furniture shipment.

As the house continued to progress, the client came back to me for more items, including curtains and custom cabinetry.

This is actually quite common for my whole-home projects.

Clients don't always know everything they need at the beginning. New requirements come up as the house progresses.

Because I already know the project, the style and what we purchased before, it is much easier for me to continue helping with the next stage.

11,My Role in a Furniture Sourcing Project

I am not a furniture factory, and I don't only sell products from one supplier.

I work on the buyer's side.

For a project like this, I can help with supplier sourcing, quotation comparison, customization, order coordination, production follow-up, inspection, consolidation and shipping coordination.

For me, sourcing is not just about finding a product or getting a price.

It is about managing all the small details between the client's idea and the final shipment.
